What Is Phase?

What Is HID?
HID stands for Human Interface Device. It is a USB communication protocol that allows hardware and software to exchange control information directly.
DJs may already know HID from using compatible CDJs with DJ software. In those setups, the player sends accurate position and control data to the computer without relying on an analog timecode signal.
Phase now uses that same type of direct connection with rekordbox. Once the Receiver is connected over USB, rekordbox recognizes it and adds dedicated Wireless deck options.
Why Use Phase with rekordbox in HID Mode?
One USB Cable for Phase Control
A traditional DVS setup sends an analog timecode signal through RCA cables, into a mixer or interface, and then into the software for decoding.
HID removes that control-signal path. Connect the Phase Receiver to the computer over USB, wait for rekordbox to detect it, and assign each Remote to a deck.
DJs still need a compatible mixer, controller, or audio interface for rekordbox audio output. However, Phase no longer needs RCA connections for deck control.
Traditional RCA-based DVS operation remains available for DJs who prefer it.
Direct Digital Tracking
In HID mode, Phase sends platter position data directly to rekordbox. The software does not need to decode an analog timecode signal first.
That shorter signal path removes variables such as RCA cable condition, control-signal levels, and interface input settings. It also provides the most direct connection between Phase and rekordbox.
The result is stable tracking during cueing, mixing, scratching, drags, and fast platter movements.
Flexible Deck Assignment
Once rekordbox detects Phase, the software adds two new deck choices:
- WIRELESS (A) for Remote A
- WIRELESS (B) for Remote B
Either Remote can control any available rekordbox jog panel. In a four-deck layout, DJs can assign the Remotes to decks 3 and 4 as easily as decks 1 and 2.
Because Phase Essential includes two Remotes, it controls two decks at one time. However, users can move those assignments between any four software decks.

Remote Battery Levels

Track-Loaded Animation
Loading a track triggers a short LED fill animation on the corresponding Remote. The animation confirms that the track loaded onto the intended deck.
Emergency Internal Mode
DJs can switch a rekordbox deck to internal mode if platter control becomes unavailable. The track continues playing while the DJ checks the Remote, Receiver, calibration, or USB connection.

How to Set Up Phase with rekordbox
First, update Phase through Phase Manager and confirm that the Receiver and Remotes use firmware version 9 or later.
Next, install rekordbox version 7.2.16 or later and make sure DVS is unlocked.
Connect the Phase Receiver directly to the laptop over USB. A compatible USB hub also works. After a few seconds, rekordbox should display a Phase is Connected message.
Open the deck’s DVS mode menu and select WIRELESS (A) or WIRELESS (B). Assign the second Remote to another deck as needed.
Finally, place the Remotes on the records and keep the platters still during calibration. Wait until each LED becomes solid before starting playback.
